Overview
The Institute is committed to advancing human rights through sustained education, professional training, capacity building and knowledge development. Courses and training constitute an important part of the Institute's mandate and are designed to equip individuals and institutions with the knowledge, skills and practical tools required to promote, protect and uphold human rights in their respective areas of responsibility.
The Institute will offer a diverse range of courses and training programmes addressing contemporary human rights issues, justice administration, customary law, law enforcement, security, corrections, traditional justice systems, governance and related areas. Particular emphasis will be placed on practical and context-sensitive human rights education that connects legal and normative standards with everyday decision-making and institutional practice.
Flexible Delivery
Programmes will be delivered through physical and online formats, depending on their nature and requirements. Online learning may include appropriate digital platforms, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and other technology-enabled approaches.
Tailor-Made Learning
The Institute will develop courses for particular institutions, professions, communities and stakeholder groups. These may take the form of short courses, certificate programmes, seminars, workshops and professional development programmes.
Education for Every Actor
IHRALS seeks to make human rights education accessible not only to lawyers, academics and professionals, but also to the formal and informal actors whose decisions and actions directly affect the enjoyment, protection or violation of human rights.
